Family-Friendly Things to do in the Desert (Outside of the Pool)!

Spring Break 2024 is in the books!

We spent a wonderful week in Palm Springs, CA. I'm going to fill you in on some really fun things we did, but I also want to be truthful. I needed this vacation, like for real. As soon as we reached our rental house and put away the groceries (vacation hack: have your groceries delivered so they are waiting for you when you arrive) I took a nap...this nap lasted 13 hours?! Yep, I went to bed around 5:30pm pacific time (to be fair, it was 7:30pm mountain time) and I didn't wake up until the next morning! Thank you Tom for putting the kids to bed, because I was OUT.

So yes, we planned some fun things to do, but I needed down time as well. In fact, the entire family needed this week to recharge. We spent a lot of time at the house just swimming, eating, reading, and watching TV. Now that we're home, we probably still need some more time, but here are four fun "outside of the house" activities that we did.

This year we tried horseback riding. The girls had never been, so we found a great ranch in the Morongo Valley called Crazy Horse Ranch that teaches "natural horse training". It can be a little scary to ride a horse for the first time, but we felt safe and learned A LOT!

We also found a new hiking trail, Palm Canyon Trail, that we HIGHLY recommend. The girls were able to climb on rocks and the scenery was absolutely amazing. If we had more time, we might have gone back and hiked it again. It was that fun!

Something we always do when we are in Palm Springs is visit the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. They have unique animals (our favorites are the giraffes and rhinos) and we are able to walk the entire zoo in about 3 hours. It's an afternoon perfectly spent!

Another fun activity we did was take a Covered Wagon Tour. After a fun and educational covered wagon tour through a palm oasis, we were fed a delicious BBQ and listened to live music. We even line danced. It was a lot of fun, plus we learned a lot about the desert!

We spent a wonderful and fun-filled family week in the desert. I can't wait to go back - Spring Break 2025?!
